THE MAKING OF CASPER TNG’S BREAKTHROUGH

For years, Casper TNG has been one of the most recognizable names in Toronto rap. Before the Gold plaques, before the major label deal, and before “The Market” became one of the biggest records in the country, Casper had already built a reputation as one of the city’s most talked-about artists. His music reflected the realities of the neighborhoods he came from, earning him a loyal following and helping establish him as a staple within Toronto’s rap scene.

But as his career continued to gain momentum, life took a different turn.

Legal troubles brought everything to a halt and forced Casper away from music at a time when many believed he was entering the prime of his career. Years later, when he finally returned home, the conversation wasn’t about what he had lost. It was about what came next.

In a recent CBC interview, Casper opened up about the chapter that changed his life. While many people point to prison as the turning point in his story, Casper says becoming a father had the biggest impact on him. It gave him a different perspective, a different purpose, and a renewed focus both inside and outside of music.

That growth would eventually show itself in the form of a record that changed everything.

When Casper TNG and 100Bandplan released “The Market,” the song quickly became impossible to ignore. The record exploded across social media, generated millions of streams, and became one of the biggest rap songs to come out of Canada over the past year.

For longtime supporters, the success felt overdue.

Toronto had always believed Casper was capable of creating a record that could reach the mainstream. “The Market” finally became that moment.

The song’s success led to a major career milestone when Universal Music Canada officially signed Casper earlier this year. For an artist who spent years building independently, navigating setbacks, and rebuilding his momentum from the ground up, the deal represented far more than industry recognition. It was proof that perseverance still matters.

Today, Casper TNG finds himself in a position that once felt uncertain. A Gold-certified hit record, a partnership with one of the biggest labels in the country, and a new chapter that continues to unfold in front of the entire city.

Toronto has watched Casper TNG experience the highs and the lows.

Now it’s watching him win. And if “The Market” was the breakthrough, the next chapter might be even bigger.
