Toronto International Music Video Festival Returns for Its Third Year

Where filmmakers and musicians from around the world come together to celebrate the art of music videos

Toronto’s creative scene is about to light up again. The Toronto International Music Video Festival is back for its third year, running November 7 to 9, bringing together filmmakers, musicians, and artists from across the globe. What started as a small celebration of visual storytelling has turned into one of the city’s most anticipated creative events.

Festival Director Mac Downey said it best

“We’ve always felt that music videos are underappreciated. Our hope is that this festival can shine a spotlight on an industry that’s so important to both filmmakers and musicians.”

A Weekend Built for Creators

It all kicks off Friday, November 7 at The Rec Room with a mix of live performances and visual art. The opening night features memyself&vi, Melo Griffith, and QUIETLOVE, hosted by Unsighted. It’s the kind of night where music and visuals come together perfectly, setting the tone for what’s to come.

On Saturday, November 8, the action moves to The Paradise Theatre. Things start with the Micro-Budget Showcase, followed by a heavy-hitting Industry Roundtable featuring Fatty Soprano, Jalal Kazemi, Lil Man Purse, and That Good Graphic. They’ll be talking about what it really takes to build a name in the city, from shooting on no budget to creating visuals seen around the world.

The day continues with the It’s All Gonna Break documentary screening on Broken Social Scene, plus both Canadian and International Showcases. The night ends at Teddy Beer with the official After Party, where networking turns into a real celebration.

Inside the Mind of the Director and Artist

Sunday keeps the momentum going back at The Paradise Theatre. Things start off with Through the Eyes, a live conversation with Jorden Lee and GOVI, giving people a behind-the-scenes look at how visuals can build an artist’s identity.

After that, the Nominated Showcases take over before the festival wraps with the 2025 TIMVF Awards, celebrating creativity across 17 categories, including new ones like Best Student Music Video, Best Choreography, and Best Canadian Music Video.

Downey explained the heart behind it all

“TIMVF is anti-gatekeeping. We want to break down barriers and give filmmakers from every background a real platform.”

More Than Just a Festival

TIMVF isn’t just about showing videos. It’s about connecting the dots between visuals, music, and community. From breakout directors to seasoned creatives, this festival proves that the art of music videos is still one of the most powerful ways to tell a story.
